Help us choose recipients for our 2024 Lifetime Account Charity Fundraiser!

The Proton Lifetime Account Charity Fundraiser has become a yearly tradition for our community in which we raise funds for organizations doing good in the world. Since 2018, we have donated over $2.7 million to 32 organizations promoting and defending privacy, freedom of speech, and human rights.

Each year, we ask you to nominate an organization that’s important to you to be a beneficiary of the fundraiser. This year, for our seventh edition, we’ll carefully select 10 of your nominees to be this year’s recipients. The deadline to nominate your organization is November 13.

If you’re not sure what kinds of organizations to nominate, you can find inspiration in some of our previous recipients(nouvelle fenêtre). These have included investigative newsrooms, civil society groups, and public interest tech developers, such as Privacy International, Freedom of the Press Foundation, World Wide Web Foundation, Tor, and Graphene OS.

How the fundraiser works

The 2024 Lifetime Account Charity Fundraiser is a raffle for 10 Proton Lifetime Accounts, our most exclusive plan that’s no longer available for purchase. Very few people are owners of Lifetime Accounts, which we introduced during our 2014 crowdfunding campaign(nouvelle fenêtre).

A Lifetime Account gives you all Proton features and the most storage on all existing and future Proton products, forever.

Importantly, Lifetime Accounts are transferable, so you can resell them on the secondary market. Proton is available to help facilitate transfers, and in the past Lifetime owners have sold their accounts for between $5,000 and $15,000.

Our charity fundraiser is your chance to win a Lifetime Account by purchasing any number of raffle tickets for $10 each. This year’s raffle will work similar to last year’s (the only difference is that we won’t auction off rare usernames this year). Anyone will be able to participate.

We’ll also gift one Lifetime Account to a member of our community randomly chosen from among our followers on X(nouvelle fenêtre), Instagram(nouvelle fenêtre), Reddit(nouvelle fenêtre), Mastodon(nouvelle fenêtre), and Facebook(nouvelle fenêtre). (So now is a good time to start following!)

When we announce the raffle, we’ll also share how much money was raised and split the funds among the 10 organizations, along with an additional $100,000 matching donation from the Proton Foundation(nouvelle fenêtre). Last year, we donated $732,000.

Important dates

Mark your Proton Calendars(nouvelle fenêtre) with the following important dates:

  • First day to buy raffle tickets: December 12, 2024
  • Last day to buy raffle tickets: January 5, 2025
  • Raffle winners announced: January 6, 2025

Building a better internet, together

For years, the internet has evolved to serve corporations rather than people, at the cost of our privacy and freedom. But the internet doesn’t have to be this way — together, we can change it. We founded Proton to empower people everywhere to take control of their personal data and communicate freely, without fear of surveillance.

Since then, our community has grown to over 100 million people who believe in this mission and use Proton’s encrypted services to protect what matters most. But creating a better internet requires more than technology. It requires a movement.

That’s why, each year, we support organizations that share our vision of an internet built on privacy and freedom. With the strength of our community behind us, we give these high-impact grants to organizations that promote digital rights for all.

Join us in this mission. Make your nomination by November 13, and let’s continue building an internet that serves people, not profits.
